Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Jersey Cheese, Figs, and Honey

Preparation time: 15 min.

Ingredients for 2 sandwiches:

    • 4 slices of hearty bread (e.g. sourdough or whole grain bread)
    • 100 g Jersey cheese
    • 4 fresh figs, sliced
    • 2 teaspoons honey
    • 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature
    • Optional: 2-4 slices of Parma ham

Preperation:

  1. Prepare the Sandwich:
  • Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Place two slices of bread with the buttered side facing down.
  1. Assemble the Sandwich:
  • Evenly distribute the Jersey cheese on the two slices of bread.
  • Arrange the fig slices on top of the cheese.
  • Drizzle each sandwich with one teaspoon of honey.
  • Place the Parma ham slices on top of the figs, if using – the savory taste of the ham pairs wonderfully with the sweetness of the honey.
  • Sprinkle a few fresh thyme or rosemary leaves over the figs and ham, if desired.
  • Place the remaining slices of bread on top, with the buttered side facing up.
  1. Grill the Sandwich:
  • Heat a pan over medium heat. Grill the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes per side, until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
  • Press gently with a spatula to ensure the cheese and figs meld together.
  1. Serve:
  • Remove the sandwiches from the pan and cut them diagonally.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the combination of creamy cheese, sweet figs, and savory ham!

Enjoy!
